Migration FAQs

What is the difference between a 482 and a 186 visa?
The 482 visa is a temporary work visa sponsored by an Australian employer, while the 186 visa is a permanent residency visa. Some 482 visa holders can transition to a 186 after working with the employer for a required period.
How long does a Partner Visa take to process?
Partner visa processing times can vary, but it typically takes 12–24 months. Factors such as the strength of your relationship evidence and application completeness can affect the timeline.
Can I apply for a visa if I’ve had a previous refusal
Yes, but it depends on the reason for the refusal and your current circumstances. You may be eligible to appeal through the AAT, or apply for a different visa subclass with stronger documentation.
Do I need a skills assessment for a skilled visa?
Yes, a positive skills assessment from the relevant authority is required for most General Skilled Migration visas, such as the 189, 190, and 491. Each occupation has its own assessing body.
Can I include my family in my visa application?
Yes, most visa subclasses allow you to include dependent family members, such as a spouse and children. You'll need to provide evidence of your relationship and meet additional health and character requirements.
